A survey by a Japanese institute showed researchers in China and the United States are most active in conducting studies encompassing artificial intelligence.

Japan's National Institute of Science and Technology Policy said American companies and universities comprised almost half of the AI studies presented at leading academic conferences last year, while Chinese entities came in second.

The organization also noticed an increasing number of collaborative researches by the two nations, as Chinese firms are investing in studies done at American institutions.

NISTEP evaluated various researches at three most popular international conventions between 2010 and 2015, and sorted those according to the nationality of the author, institution, and presenter.

The institute added studies showed at these gatherings are described as high quality as 30% or lower are considered for presentation.
