• Reflecting yet another jetliner-led decline in transportation bookings, durable goods orders probably declined by 0.4 pct in October, after a 1.1 pct reduction in the prior month. Transport requisitions are forecasted to fall by 4.6 pct during the reference period, with reduced commercial aircraft orders accounting for roughly half of that drop. 
  
• Aside from the anticipated weakness in that industry segment, hard goods bookings likely posted a solid 1.4 pct rise in October, erasing September's 0.1 pct dip. Stepped-up orders for fabricated and primary metals, electrical equipment and machinery are expected to power that gain. 
  
• Closely followed soundings on nondefense capital goods orders and shipments excluding aircraft probably will contribute to the upbeat tone of the Census Bureau's advance report.  Nondefense capital goods shipments sans jetliner deliveries - an input into the Bureau of Economic Analysis' business fixed investment estimates - are projected to have risen by 1.0 pct, boosting the cumulative rise since April to 4.5 pct.
  
• Societe Generale's forecast, if realized, would place core shipments last month 4.9 pct annualized above the July-September average, following a hefty 12.1 pct Q3 advance.
