Taiwan's consumer price inflation accelerated more-than-expected in February, figures from the Directorate General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics showed Wednesday.

Consumer prices climbed 2.19 percent year-on-year in February, faster than the 0.89 percent increase seen in January. Inflation was forecast to rise to 2 percent.

On a monthly basis, consumer prices gained 0.93 percent mainly because of the Lunar New Year effects.

Meanwhile, wholesale prices declined 0.27 percent annually following a 0.72 percent decrease seen in January. Compared to January, wholesale prices dropped 0.14 percent.
