Industrial production in South Korea jumped a seasonally adjusted 1.4 percent on month in August, Statistics Korea said on Tuesday.

That follows the 0.5 percent increase in July.

On a yearly basis, industrial production advanced 2.5 percent, accelerating from the 1.0 percent gain in the previous month.

The index of all industry production added 0.5 percent on month and 1.5 percent on year after gaining 0.6 percent on month and 1.3 percent on year in July.

The manufacturing production Index in August increased 1.6 percent on month and 2.0 percent on year. The manufacturing shipment index added 1.6 percent on month and 0.7 percent on year. The manufacturing inventory index gained 1.1 percent on month and 4.6 percent on year.

The production capacity index in August fell 0.3 percent on month and 1.4 percent on year. The index of capacity utilization rate climbed 3.4 percent on month and 2.6 percent on year.

The manufacturing average capacity utilization rate in August marked 75.7 percent, up 2.5 percentage points from the previous month. The index of services added 0.1 percent on month and 1.6 percent on year.

The retail sales index was flat month but increased 6.0 percent on year. The Equipment Investment Index slipped 1.4 percent on month and 11.2 percent on year.

The domestic machinery shipment index in August shed 6.6 percent on year. The value of domestic machinery orders received climbed 6.8 percent on year.

In August, the value of construction completed at constant prices dipped 1.3 percent on month and 6.2 percent on year. The value of construction orders received at current prices plummeted 32.1 percent on year.

The composite coincident index in August was up 0.1 percent on month. The cyclical component of composite coincident index, which reflects current economic situations, fell 0.2 points from the previous month.

The composite leading index in August eased 0.1 percent on month. The cyclical component of composite leading index, which predicts the turning point in business cycle, fell 0.4 points from the previous month.
