Spain's consumer price inflation accelerated for the first time in three months during September, revised data from the Instituto Nacional de Estadistica, or INE, showed on Thursday.

Inflation based on the consumer price index rose to 2.3 percent from 2.2 percent each in both July and August. On September 28, the INE reported that inflation was unchanged in September.

Compared to the previous month, the CPI rose 0.2 percent in September following 0.1 percent growth in August.

The INE also reported that core inflation, which excludes volatile prices such as those of fresh food and energy, was stable at 0.8 percent in September.

The EU measure of inflation, which is the harmonized index of consumer prices or HICP, rose 2.3 percent year-on-year after a 2.2 percent increase. Earlier, the figure was reported unchanged.

On a month-on-month basis, the HICP rose 0.6 percent in September.
