2019.03.2208:55:00UTC+00Malaysia Consumer Price Decline Slows In February

Malaysia's consumer prices declined at a slower pace in February, as a decrease in transport costs was offset by increases in utility and food prices, figures from the Department of Statistics showed on Friday.

The consumer price index fell 0.4 percent year-on-year in February after a 0.7 percent decline in January.

The fall in the CPI was driven by a 6.8 percent decrease in transport costs in February.

Meanwhile, prices of utilities including housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels grew 2 percent and those of food and non-alcoholic beverages rose 1 percent.

Among other main components, followed by 1.3 percent rise in the price of restaurants and hotel.

Compared to the previous month, consumer prices edged up 0.2 percent in February, reversing a 0.5 percent decline in the previous month.

The core CPI rose 0.3 percent year-on-year in February.
