Malaysia's consumer price inflation rose in December, figures from the Department of Statistics showed on Wednesday.

The consumer price index rose 1.0 percent year-on-year in December, following a 0.9 percent increase in November. This was in line with economists' expectation.

Among the main groups, prices for miscellaneous goods and services grew 2.4 percent. Prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages, housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels, and education increased by 1.7 percent, each.

Prices for communication rose 1.5 percent and those of furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance rose by 1.4 percent.

Compared to the previous month, consumer prices edged up 0.2 percent in December.

The core CPI rose 1.4 percent year-on-year in December.

In the whole year of 2019, consumer prices logged an increase of 0.7 percent from last year.
