2016.09.3001:18:00UTC+00IMF economists back in Argentina following decade-long absence

For IMF economists, it is a comeback of sorts in Argentina following more than a decade of absence.

The International Monetary Fund finished Thursday its first Article IV consultations since its economists last visited the country in 2006. It noted the significant progress chalked by the country and unveiled new reforms since President Mauricio Macri assumed the post in December.

It mentioned the pace and composition of the nation's transition in the fiscal position and the rate of disinflation will have to be sensitive to the effect on growth, jobs, and most vulnerable sectors of the economy.

After a settlement with holdout bondholders this year over its $95 billion default in 2001, Argentina has eliminated rigid currency regulations, tapped bond markets to generate money, and sought to improve its national statistics.
