The threat of the government shutdown was left behind after the US Congress reached a deal on spending bills for the 2017 fiscal year, which ends in September.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump refused to allocate funds for building a wall in the US-Mexican border. However, there some points left to be negotiated, including funding of Puerto Rico, health benefits for coal miners and an additional $30 billion for defense, from which only $12 billion was approved.
Initially, the Trump administration asked for $3 billion for border security measures, but Congress approved only $1.5 billion.
The bill must be also approved by the Senate before being signed by the president to become law. For now, there is a temporary bill that provides federal funding through May 5.
