The consumer price index in Italy rose by 1.9% in April 2017 from the same period a year ago, national statistics institute Istat said. In March, the index rose by 1.4%. Month-on-month, prices edged up by 0.4%.
Consumer prices excluding volatile energy prices, food and alcohol prices went up by 1.1% year-on-year, following a 0.7% increase in March.
Food prices increased by an annualized 2.2%, while alcohol and tobacco prices rose by 1.8%. Prices for clothes and footwear edged up by 0.4%, while transportation costs jumped by 5.6%.
Meanwhile, the harmonized index of consumer prices rose by 2% annually and advanced by 0.8% month-on-month.
