In Chimkent, the Southern part of Kazakhstan, the swindlers were trying to draw money out of trustful people by offering them a new “customs union currency” in exchange, Tengrinews reports. Two women were involved into this speculation, the victims were pensioners. The offenders were lying to elderly people that the local currency is exchanged for the new “customs union currency” due to the fact that Kazakhstan is joining the Customs Union. “The ladies suggested the pensioners to quickly make an exchange. Naive retirees gave all their savings to the fraudsters”, -the local police officer Aziz Kenjaev tells. Seven people were defrauded for the total sum of half a million tenge (about 3,000 dollars). It is not stated how the self-minted currency looked like. The Customs Union between the RF, Belarus and Kazakhstan came into existence in 2010. In 2011 customs control was successfully moved towards the outer boundaries of the Union. There were suggestions about introduction of a new single currency in terms of the Customs Union. In particular, Prime Minister Dimtriy Medvedev was discussing this issue. President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbaev also supported the idea of single EurAsEC currency. Meanwhile, the National Bank of Kazakhstan reported that such measure is premature. “Introduction of common currency is a long term prospect, now it is too early to discuss the possibility of unification of Customs Union currencies”, - chairman of the National Bank Grigoriy Marchenko announced.
