2013.04.0501:53:23UTC+00Hong Kong stocks slumped; Cathay Pacific, energy knock off

Hong Kong stocks sharply dropped opening the Friday action, with concern over U.S. jobs and a decline in oil prices pulling on the market as trading resumed after Thursday's holiday. The Hang Seng Index gave up 1.5% to 22,14.60, extremely underperforming a boisterous market in Japan as the yen diminished further, while the Hang Seng China Enterprises Index surrenders 1.8% to 10,563.60. Shares of PetroChina Co. relinquished 2.7% and Cnooc Ltd. declined 2.8% as U.S. crude-oil prices traded under $94 a barrel. Among other notable losers, Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd. hugely dropped 4.8%, China Resources Land Ltd. descended 5% and ports operator Cosco Pacific Ltd. tumbled 4%. Mainland Chinese and Taiwanese markets remained shut for holidays.
