E-commerce giant Amazon belonging to the world’s richest man was accused of endangering the health of its employees. CEO and founder Jeff Bezos hit the jackpot during the COVID-19 pandemic as strict lockdown measures assured people across the world to buy most consumer goods through the Internet. So, the company has expanded its staff by thousands of employees to deal with a flood of client’s orders. Therefore, the Internet retailer created a great number of new jobs which were desperately needed during the pandemic-driven crisis. The Amazon management reiterates that it spares no expense to guarantee its personnel safe work conditions. “We utilize a variety of data to closely monitor the safety of our buildings and there is strong evidence that our employees are not proliferating the virus at work,” an Amazon spokesperson told CNBC. “We believe strongly our associates are not spreading the virus at work given the robust safety measures we’ve put into place.”  

Nevertheless, something went wrong. CNBC reported that 8 warehouse workers died as a result of the coronavirus infection. Remarkably, no lethal cases have been recorded among staffers at China’s Internet giants such as Alibaba and JD.com. Another trouble is that Amazon warehouse workers at Germany-based facilities went on a strike after staffers at several logistics centers had been tested positive for the coronavirus. At present, a lot of workers are scared to go to work, suspecting that the company does not care about their well-being.

At the same time, skeptics doubt that China’s Internet retailers report accurate data. Fans are unwilling to blame Amazon for negligence. It is common knowledge that China tends to cover up dubious information and frequently provides fake statistics. As for Amazon, the company is obviously playing fair and making every effort to protect its workers from the virus.
