Not only cryptos conquer space. Ordinary satellites are still sent into orbit. It is reported that SpaceX will launch the doge-funded satellite to the Moon soon.
The mission will be sent to the Moon in the first quarter of 2022 and is to be funded with the meme-inspired cryptocurrency, DOGE. Elon Musk personally confirmed the news.
"SpaceX launching satellite Doge-1 to the moon next year," Musk wrote in a tweet.
On its official website, Canada's Geometric Energy Corporation, the owner of the satellite, said that Doge-1 will fly to the Moon as a payload on a Falcon 9 rocket. The payload "will obtain lunar-spatial intelligence from sensors and cameras on-board with integrated communications and computational systems." The company will send the satellite by means of SpaceX’s commercial spacecraft launch program.
"Having officially transacted with DOGE for a deal of this magnitude, Geometric Energy Corporation and SpaceX have solidified DOGE as a unit of account for lunar business in the space sector," GEC stated.
"The mission will demonstrate the application of cryptocurrency beyond Earth orbit and set the foundation for interplanetary commerce," SpaceX vice president of commercial sales Tom Ochinero said. "We’re excited to launch DOGE-1 to the Moon!"
