The jobless rate in Australia came in at a seasonally adjusted 5.2 percent in June, the Australian Bureau of Statistics said on Thursday - unchanged and in line with expectations.

The Australian economy added 500 jobs last month to 12,871,700 - well shy of expectations for an increase of 9,000 jobs following the increase of 42,300 in May.

The participation rate was 66.0, beating forecasts for 65.9 percent but unchanged from the previous month.

Full-time employment increased 21,100 to 8,815,600 persons following the gain of 2,400 in the previous month.

Part-time employment decreased 20,600 to 4,056,100 persons after the addition of 42,200 jobs a month earlier.

Unemployment increased 6,600 to 711,500 persons.

The monthly seasonally adjusted underemployment rate decreased 0.4 pts to 8.2 percent. The monthly underutilization rate decreased 0.3 pts to 13.4 percent.

Monthly hours worked in all jobs decreased 0.1 million hours to 1,773.9 million hours.
