Poland's jobless rate dropped in August to its lowest level since last 1990, Statistics Poland reported Tuesday.

The registered unemployment rate fell marginally to 5.8 percent from 5.9 percent in July. This was the lowest since October 1990, when it stood at 5.5 percent.

The rate was forecast to remain unchanged at 5.9 percent. In the same period last year, the jobless rate was 7 percent.

The number of unemployed decreased to 958,600 from 961,800 a month ago. Newly registered unemployed fell to 133,100 from 137,800.
