Recently, US tech giant Microsoft has officially confirmed its plans to purchase Chinese-owned app TikTok from its parent company ByteDance. Soon, the fans of TikTok may have to accept a new user agreement. Microsoft management stated its intention to acquire a popular app belonging to ByteDance, but the details of the deal have not been disclosed yet. However, the deal implies a full security review of the app. This means that the private data storage system should be completely revised in order to ensure the security of US citizens. The main condition here is that the personal data of TikTok American users should be stored in the US. Yet, the potential purchase of TikTok suddenly came at risk of failure after US President Donald Trump had expressed his negative attitude towards the popular video streaming app. Trump believes that the Chinese social network may pose a threat to US national security. He also insisted that ByteDance should divest from its stake in TikTok so that the Chinese government could not control the work of the social network in the United States. Further on, the president threatened to completely ban TikTok thus putting the Microsoft plans for the app's acquisition on hold. However, after the conversation with Donald Trump, the management of the tech company confirmed its plans to proceed with the deal. The sales negotiations will take several weeks, and the discussions about acquisition from ByteDance should complete no later than September 15, 2020.
