BlackRock's Scott Thiel, head of global bonds, on Thursday said the Bank of England could pause monetary easing on the strength of recent economic data.

BlackRock previously cautioned that Britain could hit recession over the coming year after the country decided to leave the European Union in June.

At an even in London, Thiel said, "On the current data, the BoE could pause its current easing cycle." He also said the central bank had a “tough call" to make on the economy after Brexit.

Thiel also said he "favoured long positions" on the Japanese currency and government bonds after the Bank of Japan's recent policy actions suggested "a new era of cooperation between fiscal and monetary policy".
