U.S. stocks ended significantly lower, as financials and healthcare were both down, while market watchers focused on the OPEC meeting and the U.S. presidential debate. The Dow Jones industrial average declined by 0.91 percent, as Goldman Sachs dropped the most.

The S&P 500 decreased by 0.86 percent, as financials and healthcare both slipped by over one percent. The financials led ten sectors down and real estate was the only gainer. The Nasdaq composite dropped by 0.91 percent. The biotechnology index of the Nasdaq slipped by 1.3 percent as Celgene was down by 2.8 percent. The S&P 500 healthcare index's largest decliner was Pfizer which was down by 1.22 percent. U.S. listed shares of Deutsche Bank plummeted by nearly 7.9 percent to a record low of $11.83 which prompted declines between Wall Street banks following a report by a German magazine which stated that Angela Merkel has ruled out state assistance for the bank. The S&P financial index declined by 1.5 percent, while the Bank of America's 2.77 percent fall and JPMorgan's 2.19 percent slide weighed the most. The KBW Bank index declined by 2.12 percent.
