22.10.202520:06:29UTC+00TSX Recovers on Energy Producers

The S&P/TSX Composite index edged up by 0.3%, closing at 29,983 on Wednesday. This increase marks a recovery following a notable decline in the previous session. The uptick was primarily driven by a resurgence in energy stocks, which helped counterbalance the ongoing pressure on mining stocks amidst renewed trade and geopolitical uncertainties. Leading the charge were Canadian Natural Resources, Suncor, and Imperial Oil, with each company seeing share price increases ranging from 1.3% to 3.1%. This boost came as oil prices rebounded due to optimism around potential progress in trade talks between the US and China/India, accompanied by reports that India might reduce its imports of Russian crude, thus tightening the supply outlook. The mining sector saw mixed results as gold prices continued their significant decline. Additionally, caution lingered in the markets as reports emerged that the White House is contemplating restrictions on the export of goods to China that are manufactured using US software, keeping risk levels elevated.
