In the third quarter of 2025, Malta experienced a 3.0% year-over-year growth in its economy, up from 2.8% in Q2, yet maintaining one of the lowest expansion rates in more than two years. Household consumption demonstrated a slight increase, reaching 3.2% up from 3.1% in the second quarter, primarily fueled by expenditures in restaurants, accommodation, transport, and ICT services. The contribution of net trade to GDP was notable at 1.5 percentage points, with exports rising by 3.9% as imports grew at a slower pace of 3.1%. Furthermore, inventories and valuables enhanced GDP by an additional 0.4 percentage points. However, fixed capital formation experienced a decline of 1.4%, contrasting with a 1.5% increase in Q2, due to decreased investments in machinery, equipment, and other buildings and structures. Additionally, government spending decelerated significantly, posting a mere 0.8% rise compared to 8.0% growth in the previous quarter.
