In January 2026, consumer prices in El Salvador increased by 0.65% compared to the previous year, marking a decline from the 0.91% rate observed in December and continuing the disinflationary trend for the fourth consecutive month. The primary contributors to this uptick were food and associated items, which saw a rise of 0.89%, down from 1.29% in December. Other sectors contributing to inflationary pressure included restaurants and hotels, which experienced a slight increase to 3.95% from 3.94%, and healthcare, which saw a minor decrease from 2.31% to 2.26%. Meanwhile, the housing and utilities sector experienced an increase to 1.16% from 0.96%. On the contrary, transportation costs decreased further by 3.27%, compared to a 1.64% drop in December. Price declines also continued in other sectors, including clothing and footwear, which fell by 0.49% (a slight increase from a 0.48% decline), household goods, which decreased by 0.13% compared to 0.09%, and communications, which saw a decrease of 0.53% from 0.88%. Monthly consumer price data for January was not included in the report.
