Canada’s wholesale trade rose 2% month-on-month to C$86.1 billion in December 2025, rebounding from a 1.8% decline in November, though coming in just below the preliminary estimate of a 2.1% gain. Sales increased in four of the seven subsectors, led by motor vehicles and motor vehicle parts and accessories, which surged 9.3%. Excluding the automotive subsector, wholesale sales were up a more modest 0.6%.

Among the standout performers, the miscellaneous wholesalers subsector posted a 6.8% increase, driven primarily by the mineral, ore, and precious metal industry group. Sales in that group soared 85.6% to C$1.5 billion, reaching a record high. By contrast, the food, beverage, and tobacco subsector saw sales fall 3.4%.

At the regional level, five provinces recorded higher wholesale sales in December, with Ontario and Quebec leading the gains, up 3.6% and 3.7%, respectively. For the full year 2025, wholesale sales totaled C$1.024 trillion, a 2.9% increase compared with 2024.
