19.02.202606:00:00UTC+00Finland slips into monthly deflation as January CPI falls 0.2% MoM

Finland’s consumer prices declined in January 2026, with the country’s Month-over-Month Consumer Price Index (CPI) registering a -0.20% change, according to data updated on 19 February 2026. This marks a reversal from December 2025, when prices still inched higher by 0.20% compared with the previous month.

The latest reading indicates that, on a monthly basis, Finnish consumers faced slightly lower prices in January than in December, after a modest increase at the end of last year. In the comparison framework used, the “actual” figure reflects January’s price change versus December, while the “previous” figure captures December’s change relative to November, highlighting a shift from mild price growth to mild deflation at the start of 2026.

While the move from +0.20% to -0.20% MoM is small in absolute terms, it may draw attention from market participants and policymakers monitoring price dynamics and the balance between inflationary and deflationary pressures in the Finnish economy. Further monthly data will be needed to determine whether January’s decline is a temporary correction or the start of a more persistent trend.
