Food prices in Malaysia rose 1.1% year-on-year in March 2026, easing from a 1.3% increase in February and marking the slowest pace since February 2020. Price growth softened for food at home (0.1% vs 0.3% in February), meat (0.9% vs 1.7%), fish and other seafood (1.5% vs 2.5%), and food away from home (2.3% vs 2.4%). At the same time, prices remained weak for oils and fats (-0.2% vs -0.2%), cereals and cereal products (-0.1% vs -0.5%), and vegetables (-4.9% vs -6.0%). Meanwhile, prices for milk, other dairy products and eggs were unchanged after a 0.1% uptick in the previous month. Inflation was steady for sugar, confectionery and desserts (0.5% vs 0.5%), while it edged higher for fruits and nuts (0.5% vs flat previously).
