28.05.202604:01:14UTC+00Thailand’s Industrial Output Slips Into Contraction in April, Ending Brief Growth Streak

Thailand’s industrial production fell back into negative territory in April 2026, underscoring renewed pressure on the country’s manufacturing sector. Year-over-year output declined by 0.36%, reversing the 1.30% annual growth recorded in March 2026, according to data updated on 28 May 2026.

The figures show that the improvement seen in March was short-lived. While March’s 1.30% rise in industrial production versus a year earlier hinted at a tentative recovery, April’s 0.36% drop compared with April 2025 points to a loss of momentum. Both readings are measured on a year-over-year basis, comparing each month’s performance with the same month a year before.

The downturn in April suggests that Thailand’s industrial sector remains fragile, with volatility in output levels from month to month. Investors and policymakers will be watching upcoming data closely to gauge whether April’s decline marks the start of a deeper slowdown or a temporary setback following March’s brief rebound.
