30.07.202609:41:13UTC+00Portugal's Economy Rebounds Strongly in Q2

Portugal’s economy grew by 0.8% in the second quarter of 2026, picking up from an upwardly revised 0.1% in the first quarter, according to preliminary estimates. The rebound was supported by a positive contribution from net exports and stronger private consumption, even as investment declined.

This improvement followed a weak start to the year, when severe storms in central Portugal disrupted economic activity and a spike in energy prices, linked to the conflict in Iran, weighed on growth. On an annual basis, GDP growth edged up to 2.5%, compared with a revised 2.4% in the previous quarter.

For the full year, the government forecasts economic growth of 2.0%, while the Bank of Portugal expects a slightly more moderate expansion of 1.8%, after growth of 1.9% in 2025.
