Mongolia’s trade surplus widened to USD 767.0 million in July 2026 from USD 217.1 million a year earlier, reaching its highest level since March. Exports surged 54.8% year-on-year to USD 1,812.0 million, while imports grew at a more moderate 9.6% to USD 1,045.1 million.

Over the January–July period, exports increased 57.5% to USD 12,205.9 million, driven primarily by stronger shipments of mineral products (up 64.2%). Within this category, exports of bituminous coal rose 59.0%, and copper ores and concentrates jumped 89.7%. China remained Mongolia’s dominant export destination, absorbing 94.3% of total exports, followed by Switzerland with a 3.3% share.

Imports over the same period climbed 10.4% to USD 7,158.1 million. The increase was supported by higher purchases of mineral products (up 35.7%), particularly oil products (35.0%). Imports of machinery, equipment, and electrical appliances also rose, by 8.8%. China was the largest source of imports, accounting for 40.2%, followed by Russia with 27.7% and Japan with 9.2%.
