19.08.202601:30:00UTC+00Australian Wage Growth Eases Slightly in Q2, Signaling Mild Cooling in Labour Pressures

Australia’s Wage Price Index moderated in the second quarter, with year-over-year growth edging down to 3.2%, compared with 3.3% in the previous reading. The figures, updated on 19 August 2026, indicate a slight easing in wage pressures across the economy.

The current 3.2% increase measures wage growth in the second quarter of 2026 relative to the same period a year earlier, while the prior 3.3% figure reflected the year-over-year change recorded in the previous quarter. The small decline suggests that, although wage growth remains relatively firm, upward momentum has cooled modestly.

For policymakers and markets, the data will be watched as a gauge of underlying inflationary pressure. A gradual slowdown in wage growth may reduce concerns about persistent inflation but also raises questions about the strength of household income growth and consumer spending in the quarters ahead.
