Ecuador’s trade surplus shrank sharply to $21.29 million in June 2026, down from $564 million in June 2025. Exports slipped 1.34% year-on-year to $3.28 billion, as non-oil exports fell 2.87%. Shipments of traditional products dropped 10.5%, mainly due to steep declines in cocoa and cocoa preparations (-49.7%), coffee and coffee derivatives (-10.9%), tuna and fish (-21.4%), and bananas and plantains (-1%).

In contrast, imports rose 18% to $3.26 billion. Purchases of consumer goods increased 13%, driven by a 43.3% surge in durable goods and a 4.6% rise in non-durable goods. Imports of fuels and lubricants jumped 37.3%. Raw material imports grew 12.2%, led by industrial inputs (+17.4%) and construction materials (+8.3%). Imports of capital goods were up 11.3%, with transport equipment increasing 16.2%, agricultural capital goods 13.5%, and industrial capital goods 9%.

Over the first half of 2026, Ecuador posted a trade surplus of $2.34 billion, a 44% decrease compared with the same period in 2025.
