20.08.202604:22:51UTC+00Malaysia Trade Surplus Expands in June

Malaysia’s trade surplus rose to MYR 22.5 billion in July 2026, up from MYR 14.8 billion a year earlier and above market expectations of MYR 17.5 billion, as export growth outpaced imports. Exports surged 38.0% year-on-year to MYR 193.6 billion, largely driven by a 42.6% increase in manufactured goods, which made up 89.8% of total exports. Within this category, electrical and electronic (E&E) products were particularly strong, accounting for 51% of exports.

By destination, exports recorded sharp gains to the US (79.8%), Singapore (16.7%), China (30.2%), Taiwan (96%), and the EU (37%). Imports climbed 36.4% to MYR 171.1 billion, mainly reflecting strong growth in intermediate goods (40.8%) and capital goods (24%), while consumption goods also increased (5.2%). China (60.1%) and Singapore (53.8%) remained Malaysia’s two largest sources of imports.

For the January–July period, the trade surplus widened markedly to MYR 170.5 billion, more than double the MYR 71.4 billion recorded a year earlier, as export growth of 29.2% outstripped the 19.8% increase in imports.
