27.08.202609:25:11UTC+00Malta’s Q2 GDP Expands 4.5%

Malta’s economy grew by 4.5% year-on-year in the second quarter of 2026, following an upwardly revised 4.2% expansion in the previous quarter. Domestic demand remained the main engine of growth, accelerating to 4.2% from 3.2% in Q1, supported by stronger government consumption (2.5% vs. 1.8%) and higher household spending (1.7% vs. 1.4%).

By contrast, net trade weighed on overall growth, as exports rose by 4.7%, outpacing the 4.0% increase in imports. Investment momentum also softened, with gross fixed capital formation easing to 1.1% from 1.9%.

On the production side, output continued to expand in services (4.3% vs. 4.1%), while growth in the industrial sector edged down slightly to 0.3% from 0.4%. Agriculture and fishing showed no growth, after a 0.1% contraction in the previous quarter.
