07.09.202612:20:57UTC+00Mexico Auto Exports Rise in August

Mexico’s car exports rose 1.3% year-on-year to 300,475 units in August 2026, rebounding from a 9.7% decline in July. Export volumes increased the most for BMW Group (31.4%), followed by General Motors (16.8%) and Stellantis (15%).

Despite this improvement, Mexico’s auto sector remains constrained by uncertainty over US trade policy, as 76.3% of its vehicle exports are destined for the US market. In his second term, US President Trump imposed a series of tariffs on multiple countries, including Mexico. In addition, the Trump administration decided not to renew the USMCA. Under the current terms, the agreement will remain in force for another decade unless a member withdraws, but it is now subject to annual reviews that could result in significant changes. Meanwhile, the US and Mexico continue to engage in bilateral trade negotiations.

On the downside, auto exports fell most sharply for Mercedes-Benz (-95.3%), Ford Motor (-41.3%), and Mazda (-25.2%).
