11.09.202602:00:00UTC+00Japanese Consumer Sentiment Slips in September, Thomson Reuters IPSOS PCSI Shows

Japan’s consumer confidence edged lower in September, according to the latest Thomson Reuters IPSOS Primary Consumer Sentiment Index (PCSI), signaling a slight weakening in household sentiment as the third quarter draws to a close.

The PCSI for Japan eased to 39.42 in September 2026, down from 39.94 in August 2026. While the decline is modest, it keeps the index below the 50-point level that typically separates pessimism from optimism among consumers. The updated data were released on 11 September 2026.

The softening in the indicator suggests Japanese consumers may be growing slightly more cautious in their outlook for the economy and personal finances, potentially tempering spending momentum heading into the final months of the year.
