28.09.202604:10:59UTC+00Malaysia Producer Prices Rise the Most in Over 4 Years

Malaysia’s producer prices rose 10.7% year-on-year in August 2026, up from a 9.7% increase in July and marking the sixth consecutive month of gains. This was the fastest annual rise since June 2022, reflecting sustained cost pressures on producers amid supply disruptions linked to the conflict in the Middle East.

Manufacturing prices accelerated (8.8% vs 8.2% in July), driven mainly by higher costs for coke & refined petroleum products (33.5%) and computer, electronic & optical products (12.4%). The mining sector also strengthened (41.2% vs 30.5%), supported by a sharp pickup in crude petroleum extraction (49.8%).

By contrast, price growth in agriculture moderated (4.6% vs 7.2%), despite robust increases in animal production (13.9%). Price gains in utilities also eased, reflecting slower growth in water supply (7.8% vs 10.2%) and in electricity & gas (6.4% vs 6.7%).

On a monthly basis, producer prices rose 1.0% in August, accelerating from a 0.6% increase in July.
