Sweden’s household confidence indicator rose to 102.2 in September 2026 from a revised 98.4 in August, reaching its highest level since December 2021. The improvement was driven in part by households’ views of the overall economy over the past 12 months, which turned positive (4 compared with -14 in August), even as expectations for the coming year became slightly more pessimistic (-5 versus -4).

Assessments of personal finances strengthened notably, with the index rising to 12 from 5, and expectations for household finances over the next 12 months inching up to 10 from 9. Concerns about the labor market also eased, as expectations for unemployment over the next year declined significantly (4 compared with 16), while perceptions of the risk of personally becoming unemployed were unchanged at -1.

At the same time, saving intentions slipped modestly, to 47 from 49, and plans to purchase capital goods became less negative (-10 versus -12). Households’ estimates of current inflation fell to 7.4% in September from 9.2% in August, and their expectations for inflation over the next 12 months eased to 6.3% from 6.8%.
