Montenegro’s trade deficit narrowed to €325.5 million in August 2026, down from €359.8 million in the same month a year earlier. Exports surged by 49.9% year-on-year to €57.5 million, while imports declined by 3.8% to €383.0 million.

On a cumulative basis, however, the trade deficit widened to €2,620.6 million from €2,555.5 million a year earlier. Total exports increased by 2.0% to €372.9 million, supported primarily by higher shipments of food and live animals (+120.8%), beverages and tobacco (+15.5%), mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials (+16.9%), and manufactured goods classified chiefly by material (+73.4%).

At the same time, total imports rose by 2.5% to €2,993.6 million, driven by increased purchases of chemicals (+4.5%), animal oils and fats (+3.7%), miscellaneous manufactured articles (+5.3%), and commodities and transactions not classified elsewhere in the SITC (+21.8%).

Europe remained Montenegro’s dominant trading partner, accounting for 94.0% of total exports and 79.3% of total imports.
