01.10.202607:00:00UTC+00Turkey’s Manufacturing PMI Slips Further in September, Signalling Deeper Contraction

Turkey’s manufacturing sector showed a further loss of momentum in September, as the Istanbul Chamber of Industry Manufacturing Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) edged down to 47.90. The reading, recorded for September 2026 and updated on 01 October 2026, followed August’s level of 48.10, reinforcing signs of a continued contraction in factory activity.

While the change from 48.10 to 47.90 is modest, the index remains below the 50-point threshold that separates expansion from contraction. This suggests that operating conditions in Turkey’s manufacturing sector worsened slightly month-on-month, extending the period of subdued industrial performance.

The latest data indicate that manufacturers are still facing headwinds strong enough to prevent a return to growth, with September marking another month of overall weakening business conditions in the sector.
