12.10.202623:50:00UTC+00Japan’s Producer Price Inflation Eases to 6.8% in September, Marking Second Consecutive Slowdown

Japan’s Producer Price Index (PPI) growth slowed in September 2026, easing to 6.8% year-over-year from 7.6% in August, according to data updated on 12 October 2026. The figures indicate a deceleration in upstream price pressures for the second month in a row when compared to the same period a year earlier.

The PPI measures the change in prices received by domestic producers for their output and is often viewed as an early signal of future consumer price trends. In August 2026, producer prices were 7.6% higher than in August 2025; by September, that year-over-year increase had moderated to 6.8% versus September 2025.

The easing pace of producer price inflation may suggest some relief on cost pressures for Japanese businesses, which could eventually filter through to consumer prices, depending on how companies adjust their margins and pricing strategies in the coming months.
