06.02.202504:23:00UTC+00Sensex, Nifty Drift Lower In Early Trade

Indian shares experienced a slight downturn on Thursday, influenced by the looming expiration of Nifty 50 weekly options and the Reserve Bank of India's forthcoming interest-rate decision, set for Friday.

The S&P BSE Sensex index decreased by 115 points, or 0.1%, settling at 78,155 during early morning trading. Meanwhile, the broader NSE Nifty index fell by 50 points, marking a decline of 0.2%, to reach 23,645.

Key stocks facing declines included Tata Steel, BEL, Titan Company, Mahindra & Mahindra, and Shriram Finance, each dropping between 1% and 2%.

Companies like State Bank of India, Hero MotoCorp, Trent, and Bharti Airtel displayed downward movement as investors anticipated their quarterly earnings results, which are scheduled for release later today.

UltraTech Cement saw a 1.2% drop following its announcement of plans to commission an additional 0.6 MTPA grinding capacity at its current plant in Sonar Bangla, West Bengal.

Swiggy shares fell by 3.3%, a reaction to a wider net loss posted in its quarterly report. Conversely, BPCL, Dr. Reddy's Laboratories, and ITC Hotels each enjoyed gains of approximately 2%.

Info Edge rose nearly 2% after receiving board approval for a 1:5 stock split.
