Retail sales in Poland experienced a growth of 4.4% year-on-year in May 2025, a deceleration from the 7.6% increase observed in April, which marked the highest growth rate since May 2022. The rate of growth notably slowed for categories such as food, beverages, and tobacco products, which saw a 1.5% increase compared to April's 9.7%. Pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and orthopedic equipment grew by 6%, down from 7.5%, while textiles, clothing, and footwear rose by 4.7%, a decline from the previous 8.4%. Sales of newspapers, books, and other specialized store items increased by 3.5%, slightly down from 3.9%. Sales of other product categories continued to see a more significant downturn, dropping by 10.8% following a 6% decline in April. Conversely, sales in motor vehicles, motorcycles, and parts maintained an upward trajectory with a 15.7% increase compared to 14.9% in April. Solid, liquid, and gaseous fuels sales also went up by 4.9%, an improvement from 1.6%, and furniture, radio, TV, and household appliances experienced a substantial rise of 18.9% from 13.2%. On a month-to-month basis, retail sales fell by 3.2% in May, reversing a growth of 6.2% recorded in April.
