This upswing was attributed to positive sentiment following the meeting between former U.S. President Donald Trump and Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva at the ASEAN summit in Malaysia. During the talks, President Lula indicated that Trump had "guaranteed" a bilateral trade agreement aimed at suspending the existing 50% tariffs on certain U.S. products. Additionally, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent highlighted a "very successful framework" for the discussions between Trump and China's President Xi Jinping, further boosting global risk appetite. Investors interpreted these developments as a definitive reduction in tariff-related risks, with the anticipated deal potentially including a postponement of China's restrictions on rare earth exports, the avoidance of the planned 100% tariffs, and a resumption of Chinese purchases of soybeans. This market optimism was reflected in the banking sector, where Banco do Brasil's shares rose by 1.7% and Banco Santander Brasil saw an increase of 1.1%.
