In October 2025, Uruguay experienced an increase in its unemployment rate, reaching 7.3%, up from 6.9% in September. This figure marks the highest level of unemployment in four months. Notably, joblessness was more pronounced in Montevideo, where the rate stood at 7.9%, compared to a 6.9% unemployment rate in other regions of the country. Disparities were observed between genders, with unemployment affecting 8.6% of women in contrast to 6.1% of men. The challenge of youth unemployment persisted, significantly impacting those aged 14 to 24 with a rate of 25.1%, whereas workers aged 55 to 64 experienced the lowest unemployment at 2.7%. Among those employed, 9.5% faced underemployment, and a significant 21.5% of the workforce were not enrolled in social security for their primary jobs. The national activity rate was recorded at 64.7%, with an employment rate of 60.0%.
