In October 2025, Iceland experienced an increase in its seasonally adjusted unemployment rate, climbing to 4.4% from a revised figure of 3.9% in September. The total number of unemployed individuals rose by 1,100, reaching 10,700. Analyzing the data by gender, the unemployment rate for men decreased to 3.3% from 3.9%, whereas the rate for women surged to 5.8% from 3.9%. For the youth demographic aged 16 to 24, the unemployment rate saw a notable decline to 6.9% from the previous month's 9.7%. Concurrently, the employment rate slightly increased to 78.2% from 78.0%, despite a reduction in the number of employed individuals by 8,400, totaling 230,700. Labor force participation also saw an uptick, rising to 81.8% from a revised 81.2% in the preceding month. On a non-seasonally adjusted basis, the unemployment rate increased to 4.4% in October from 3.2% in September.
