In December 2025, Austria experienced a slowdown in its annual inflation rate to 3.8%, down from 4% in November, reaching its lowest level since July, according to preliminary data. "Energy prices, particularly, witnessed a deceleration, influenced by a reduction in fuel costs after a three-month upward trend. However, electricity remained at elevated prices. Overall, energy prices increased by 9.0% in December, compared to a 10.9% rise in November. The primary contributor to inflation continued to be the services sector, where prices increased by 4.4% in December, nearly paralleling the 4.5% rise in November. Inflation for food, tobacco, and alcohol also picked up, with prices surging by a notable 4.1% in December, following a 3.6% rise the month prior,” stated Manuela Lenk, Director General of Statistics Austria. On a month-to-month basis, consumer prices increased by 0.4% in December, after a 0.3% rise in the previous period.
