Malaysian palm oil futures traded just below MYR 4,080 per tonne on Tuesday, extending declines for a third consecutive session amid ongoing concerns about softer export demand. Cargo surveyors estimated that shipments for February 1–20 were down between 8.9% and 12.6% from the previous month, underscoring weaker demand despite the Ramadan period and the approaching Eid al-Fitr celebrations.

The Malaysian Palm Oil Council also highlighted headwinds from abundant global soybean supplies and an increase in Chinese soybean oil exports, factors that could intensify competition across the edible oils market. Even so, losses were partly contained by a weaker ringgit and firmer edible oil prices on the Chicago market.

Additional support came from the resumption of trading on China’s Dalian exchange following the Spring Festival break. Looking ahead, demand from India, the world’s largest buyer, is expected to recover in 2026 on the back of improved price competitiveness, with purchases potentially reaching 800,000 tons. The council projects that palm oil prices will consolidate in the MYR 4,000–4,300 per tonne range in March.
