India’s BSE Sensex opened about 0.3% higher at 77,423 on Thursday, supported by a rebound in IT stocks as the sector recovered from recent losses and investors positioned themselves ahead of key quarterly results from major technology companies. Broader equities also extended the prior session’s gains, with traders largely looking past ongoing geopolitical risks while evaluating the global market backdrop.

However, further upside was constrained by renewed tensions in the Middle East, which pushed crude oil prices higher and tempered risk appetite.

In corporate developments, HDFC Life Insurance reported a 12% year-on-year increase in first-quarter profit, driven by higher premiums. By contrast, ICICI Lombard General Insurance posted a 46% decline in profit, weighed down by elevated claims and softer performance in commercial insurance. HDB Financial Services recorded a rise in quarterly profit, supported by robust loan demand and improving asset quality.

Among individual names, notable gainers included Bector Food (up 12.2%), Mangalore Refinery & Petrochemicals (11.4%), Emmvee (8.3%), and Himadri (4.0%).
