The S&P/TSX Composite Index rose 0.5% to a record close of 35,750 on Wednesday, driven by gains in financial and technology shares. Oil prices declined as expectations of a potential resolution to the US–Iran conflict increased, easing energy-related inflation concerns and pulling bond yields lower.

Among major banks, RBC and BMO each advanced 1.1%, while TD Bank added 0.6%. Brookfield climbed 0.7% after announcing it had raised about $2 billion for a private equity fund targeting investments in the Middle East.

Technology stocks outperformed after Celestica surged 9.5% on better‑than‑expected second-quarter adjusted earnings. Shopify gained 2.7%, and Constellation Software jumped 6.4%.

Mining shares retreated as gold prices weakened ahead of the Federal Reserve’s policy decision: Agnico Eagle slipped 1.6%, Barrick lost 1.7%, and Wheaton Precious Metals (WPM) fell 2.3%.

Energy stocks also declined alongside lower oil prices, with Canadian Natural down 1.3% and Cenovus off 1.4%. Great-West Lifeco (0.0%), First Quantum (-2.3%), Cardinal Energy (-1.2%), and Intact Financial (+2.3%) are scheduled to report earnings after the close.
