The S&P/TSX Composite Index rose 0.3% to close at 36,759, extending its record-setting rally despite weaker oil prices and subdued U.S. producer inflation. Crude declined on deteriorating demand prospects, while easing U.S. inflation pressures—following softer PPI data—bolstered financials and other rate-sensitive sectors. Royal Bank of Canada advanced 0.6%, and Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce added 1.1%.

Technology shares outperformed, mirroring strength in U.S. chipmakers and hyperscalers. Shopify climbed 5.3%, Constellation Software gained 2.8%, and Celestica rose 2.6%. Brookfield increased 0.7% after reporting higher second-quarter distributable earnings per share. CCL Industries surged 6.9%, supported by 9.1% sales growth and a 10.7% increase in adjusted EPS.

On the downside, Pan American Silver dropped 9.8% after missing EPS expectations. Hydro One edged 0.5% lower despite beating quarterly estimates, and Metro slipped 0.5% following weaker fiscal third-quarter adjusted earnings.
