Finland’s consumer confidence indicator rose to -3.0 in August 2026, up from -5.3 in each of the previous two months. This marked the highest reading since February 2022, when the indicator was still in positive territory, although it remained just below the long-term average of -2.9. Consumers now expect the national economy to strengthen significantly over the next 12 months (-2.4 vs -4.7 in July). Their assessment of their current personal financial situation turned positive (0.1 vs -2.2), and confidence in their own finances over the coming year held steady (8.1). Views on the timing of purchasing durable goods became less negative (-12.7 vs -15.9), while both saving intentions (-6.6 vs -9.6) and spending intentions (-17.8 vs -22.4) improved. Expectations regarding unemployment were also less pessimistic (-14.9 vs -19.5). At the same time, inflation expectations edged higher, rising to 4.2% from 3.7% in July.
